As a Recreation Specialist, you will work with other professionals and team members to provide excellent quality of care and treatment to children & adolescents in our care.

Some of your daily responsibilities include:

  • Plans, implements and oversees social and recreational programs for students with developmental and/or behavioral disabilities.
  • Through established recreational procedures, tracks, records and implements effective recreational activities.
  • Schedules use of gymnasium, pool and other recreational areas.
  • Schedules, oversees and implements special events and activities, as well as monitors appropriate documentation and records (IE: Special Olympics, Fall Festival, Summer Picnic, etc.)
  • Maintains supplies and inventory for unit activities

We are currently seeking a Recreation Specialist to design, create and implement recreational and social activities and programs for children/adolescents with intellectual & developmental disabilities/autism diagnosis and behavioral health needs, residing in our residential programs located in West Chester, PA.

 

Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS) center serves children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges and disorders. Located in West Chester and Malvern Pennsylvania, services provided include psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF), residential treatment (RTF), acute inpatient psychiatric hospital (AIP), assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training and social skills training, and  approved private school educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges often associated with experiencing some level of trauma in their lives.  A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments. Each year, more than 1,000 children and adolescents receive specialized care, in the environment best suited to the unique challenges they face, all with the goal of providing each child with the academic, social, emotional and life skills needed to flourish in their home community.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in related field prefered. 

 

EXPERIENCE: At least three year’s experience working directly with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and behavior disorders providing recreational and leisure activities. Proficient computer skills, mastery of Microsoft Office Applications, experience with data collection/analyzing platforms (Radar, Pro-Filer, and/or other internal and external software applications pertinent to the position). Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires ability to work independently, prioritize, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and adhere to established guidelines. Valid driver's license must be maintained.
