Devereux will provide extremely high-quality, trauma-informed, culturally-competent residential and educational services for children, with intense supports for their social and emotional health. Each child’s care is individualized to their needs, with a team of professionals providing consistent support through individual assessment and counseling, group counseling, medical and mental health services, behavior management, education and vocational services, and safety planning. Devereux’s ultimate goal is to ensure every child receives best-in-class services designed specifically to address the traumas they have sustained during, and often before, their migration journey as well as to help them connect either to shelter or foster care, or to their sponsor.

 

The Bilingual Registered Nurse, ensures that the individuals’ health care needs are addressed by conducting an initial nursing assessment, administering medication, and triaging medical needs on a daily basis. Additionally, provide a nursing assessment within 24 hours prior to the individuals’ discharge.

 

  • Provide a nursing head to toe assessment within 24 hours upon admission into program.
  • Identified health medical and/or mental health risk factors.
  • Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness and administer medication on a daily basis.
  • Promotes positive health behaviors and self-care skills by educating students and staff on proper nutrition and hygiene and ensure environment is safe for children and staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases)
  • Keep track of minor’s medical records and communicate with external medical providers to develop care and discharge plans for minors with any special needs.
  • Ensure compliance with national, local health laws and recommendation as well the program’s funding agency requirements.
  • CPR instructor and workers’ compensation point person.
  • Provides “on-call” services and direct care services as required by center or as directed by the Program Director.
  • Makes appropriate recommendation to other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Elevate cases to the Division of Health for Unaccompanied Children (DHUC) when needed.

Qualifications

  • Completion of accredited RN program and current Massachusetts state licensure.
  • Minimum one (1) year of relevant nursing experience with children or adolescents in a residential or inpatient setting.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Additionally:

  • Fully immunized/vaccinated (or have a medical/religious exemption) for Varicella, MMR, TdAp, Influenza & COVID-19 prior to starting.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older (per licensing standards)
  • Ability to attend full time, paid, New Hire Orientation Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
  • Devereux has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and maintains policies and procedures to systematically reduce the risk of abuse to occur in our organization. Devereux fosters a culture of reporting abuse, and will cooperate with the authorities to the fullest extent possible.
