We are seeking a Special Education Teacher to instruct students in our Transition Program ages 17-22, that are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with learning differences and mental health/behavioral challenges. 

 

Pay:

  • $53053 - $60480.42 annually for Special Education Certified (SPED) Teachers
  • $3000 sign on bonus (1/2 paid in your first paycheck and the other 1/2 after 90 days of hire)

The Glenholme School:

 

For over 50 years -- The Glenholme School, part of Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, has provided a comprehensive residential program and services for children with learning differences and special needs. Located in picturesque Washington, CT the Teacher will be part of a cohesive, passionate and dynamic team. The selected candidate will foster Devereux’s mission and values of quality care as well as providing top-notch and individualized therapeutic care for our students.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide comprehensive specialized instruction to students in the Transition program ages 17-22
  • Instruction to be provided across all environments including the classroom, community, building and job sites
  • Organizes and provides developmentally appropiate special education programs for assigned students
  • The teacher will sueprvise the non-certified staff and students assigned to the special education transition program
  • Assists administration in the supervision and evaluation of non-certified staff
  • Support and assist students who experience difficulities with academics, social/emotional, behavioral, adaptive, daily living skills, and job skills. Provide instruction in functional academics, SEL, daily living skills, and job skills
  • Collaborate, coordinate, and facilitate IEP meetings and transition plans for students with team members
  • Develope and facilitate positive behavior support plans for students as needed
  • Implement and oversee PBIS framwork
  • Participates as an integral member of the IEP and educational support team
  • Collaborates with related service providers
  • Assists the student to reach obtainable Postsecondary goals across a wide spectrum
  • Interprets and promotes the program and its purposes to the school and community
  • Assists in obtaining appropiate educational records, data and other information necessary to the development of the educational plan
  • Participaes in parent and district conferences
  • Patricipates in required staf development activities
  • Assesses individual studen progress and identifies appropiate program plans and modifications
  • Utilizes staff, agency, and volunteer assistance in the implementation of program
  • Uses a wide range of teaching methods, materials, techniques, and equipment applicable to supporting various types of disabilities
  • Schedules activities to maintain a positive learning environment and to provide access to the least restrictive environment
  • Maintains current knowledge in their professional area including pertinent Federal Law and State Special Education regulations
  • Assists in and cooperates with necessary admission and enrollment activies and procedures
  • Collaborate with state and community agencies such as BRS, Ability Beyond, etc.

Qualifications

  • Special education degree and experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required (Master's preferred).
  • Connecticut Teaching certificate or eligibility to obtain a teaching certificate.
  • 3 years of experience within the field of education preferred.
