Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York provides programs and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. The Special Education Teacher for Emotional Support develops and provides specialized instruction to students with emotional support (ES) needs, establishes a supportive learning environment, evaluates and assesses student progress relative to instructional objectives, provides guidance to support staff, and coordinates delivery of special education services in each student’s IEP. This position will be located in Red Hook, NY (Dutchess County).
Job Duties :
1. Develops and implements Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students that include (a) present levels of educational performance, (b) special education needs, (c) instructional goals and objectives, and (d) specially designed instruction (SDI) and related services.
2. Implements SDI that is research-based and intended to meet the goals and objectives of the student’s IEP.
3. Assesses student progress, using both formative and summative evaluation, to determine the need for adjustments to the student’s IEP.
4. Actively engages students in learning, using a variety of instructional techniques, teaching relevant content, and providing specific and timely feedback.
5. Collaborates with and provides consultation to other educational professionals and community service providers (e.g., social workers, psychologists, medical providers) regarding the needs of the students.
6. Provides consultation to classroom teachers and other support staff regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, positive behavior support plans, and other instructional interventions to meet students’ needs.
7. Employs and implements a classroom structure and routine to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect.
8. Incorporates a function-based approach to address student behavior.
9. Works collaboratively with and provides consultation to family members to promote consistency in addressing student behavior.
10. Effectively communicates student progress to parents/guardians and responds to parental concerns engaging the family in the instructional process.
11. Adheres to professional responsibilities relative to certification.
12. Understands team goals and own role within the team. Supports team decisions and cooperates with others within and outside the team.
13. Completes responsibilities as assigned under supervision, seeking assistance as needed. Takes accountability for outcomes of own work and ensures timely completion of assignments.
14. Utilizes crisis physical intervention techniques appropriate to the setting and the degree of threat to the safety of the student and others.
15. Maintains compliance with all training/learning requirements and takes initiative in seeking opportunities for professional growth.
Salary Range: (commensurate with education and experience)
Bachelors with NYS Initial Certification: $56975 - $62102
Masters with NYS Initial Certification: $58000 - $63220
Masters with NYS Permanent/Professional Certification: $61200 - $66708

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Master’s degree in Special Education preferred. NY Special Education Teacher certification required.
EXPERIENCE: Previous Special Education Teacher experience required, will also consider student teaching experience.
