We are currently seeking a Reading Specialist who excels working with children who are non verbal with challenging behaviors in a classroom setting. This position will support both of our approved private schools for an IDD/ASD population of children located in [600 W. Boot Road, Downingtown, PA 19335] and [390 E. Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19380]. The Reading Specialist position is a full-time, Monday-Friday, 52-week position which follows the school schedule.

Devereux Center for Autism Research and Education Services (CARES) is an educational program licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that provides services to students, ages 5 to 21, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. CARES provides an environment that focuses on teaching each student based on his or her unique strengths and needs. Programming is focused on increasing independence for each student.
The School for Integrated Learning focuses on building upon the unique strengths of each student. Our school strives to offer a breadth of opportunities for students to express themselves and find personal levels of accomplishment through activities such as: Special Olympics, talent shows and school dances, student government, peer mentoring, service learning, community gardening, and employment education, both in the classroom and in the community. The goal of the School for Integrated Learning is to create individualized educational opportunities that enable each student to live as a positive, healthy and socially-connected individual in his or her community. The School for Integrated Learning is licensed to serve students in grades K-12 who have been identified with the following primary disabilities: behavioral and cognitive differences, autism, intellectual disabilities and speech and language impairments. The core curriculum has been aligned with the Pennsylvania Core Standards, as well as the curricula of our partner school districts. This innovative special education programs that work in tandem with families and school districts to ensure that students can return to their local schools and communities with the tools they will need to succeed. The goal of the curriculum is to provide students with learning experiences that foster increased engagement and success through differentiated instruction, evidence-based instructional strategies, and rigorous learning expectations. Each student has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), which outlines goals for skill development and the best strategies by which the student can reach his/her goals. A multi-disciplinary team, including the individual’s parent(s) or guardian, regularly reviews the plan to discuss challenges, progress and adjustments to goals as appropriate. A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Education and /or Special Education required. Pennsylvania Department of Education Reading Specialist Certification required. Wilson Reading System Level I Certification preferred or willingness to obtain Wilson certification.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in a school teaching environment required. Experience providing specially designed instruction preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to lead group meetings and interface with internal and external stakeholders.
