As a Recreation Specialist at Devereux Children’s Behavioral Health Center, daily, you will design, create and implement recreational and social activities, programs, and theraputic groups for children and adolescent individuals in an inpatient psychaitric hospital and behavoral health residential program.  

 

Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Evaluates and assesses client’s current level of functioning. Assigns individuals to appropriate group and activities based on treatment goals and level of cognitive functioning.
  • Design
  • Facilitates a minimum of 3 groups daily, accurately and timely recording progress in profiler.
  • Maintains inventory for STAR mall, ensures supplies and equipment are available as well as the schedule/calendar, including a "specials" event calendar.
  • Collaborates with other program supports to ensure activities are therapeutic and appropriate.

Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Behavioral Health Center (DCBHC) – the only free standing children’s psychiatric hospital in Chester County, Pennsylvania, – employs a team of acute care professionals dedicated to meeting the needs of children and adolescents, ages 5 to 18, and their families, in acute mental health crisis. Many of the individuals we serve are from southeast Pennsylvania, but DCBHC has served children and adolescents from other regions of Pennsylvania, as well as neighboring states.

 

Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS) center serves children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges and disorders. Located in West Chester and Malvern Pennsylvania, services provided include psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF), acute inpatient psychiatric hospital (AIP), assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training and social skills training, and  approved private school educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges often associated with experiencing some level of trauma in their lives.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE: At least three year’s experience providing recreational and leasure activities. Experience working directly with individuals with behavior disorders. Proficient computer skills, mastery of Microsoft Office Applications, experience with data collection/analyzing platforms (Radar, Pro-Filer, and/or other internal and external software applications pertinent to the position). Strong organizational skills.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Requires ability to work independently, prioritize, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and adhere to established guidelines.  Valid driver's license must be maintained.
