Devereux’s DESS People Operations/Human Resources Department responsibilities include:

  • Provide HR consultation and support to Center managers and staff across areas such as recruitment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, retention, safety, communications, and compliance.
  • Offer employee relations counseling, conduct investigations and exit interviews, and represent the organization in unemployment, workers’ compensation, and PHRC/EEOC matters.
  • Collaborate with the National People Operations Director and Center leadership to design and implement effective retention strategies.
  • Maintain and manage HR data in Oracle, including data entry, reporting, and monitoring for accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives, including recognition, reward, celebration, and motivation programs.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by monitoring and supporting adherence to federal, state, licensing, and school‑based requirements; maintain accurate, audit‑ready personnel records.
  • Model Servant Leadership and belonging values through inclusive behaviors, continuous learning, and proactive education for employees

 

About DESS:

Devereux Educational Strategies and Solutions (DESS) provides support to schools around early learning, academic interventions, safety practices and the assessment and treatment of students with complex behaviors, cognitive challenges and communication needs. We use evidence-based practices with an emphasis on assisting school systems with special education populations.

Qualifications

The successful People Operations Generalist will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in People Operations/Human Resources or related field; PHR preferred. A master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of People Operations/HR experience across core functions including employee relations, full‑cycle recruitment, performance management, workers’ compensation, leaves of absence, benefits, compensation, and training.
  • Experience in Behavioral Health or Education settings preferred.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Oracle, myAvatar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in end‑to‑end recruitment (job postings, screening, interviewing, hiring).
  • Skilled in employee relations, conflict resolution, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels and provide guidance and training.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing shifting priorities with strong judgment and timely decision-making.
  • Detail‑oriented, systems‑minded Servant Leader with strong customer service, accountability, and follow‑through.
