Devereux is one of the largest and most advanced behavioral healthcare organizations in the country. Nestled near the beaches between the Pacific Coast and Santa Ynez mountains, Devereux California is a therapeutic behavioral health treatment facility offering residential services, community living, day programs, and clinical services for adults with multiple diagnoses, including autistic spectrum disorders, emotional and/or behavioral differences, intellectual and developmental disabilities, dementia and other cognitive disorders.

 

Our beautiful Goleta campus overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and has been treating adults with co-occurring diagnoses in California since 1945. This position is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of recreational, social and instructional programs for individuals served in assigned residential or day program.

 

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Support individuals in daily greenhouse activities such as planting, watering, harvesting, and maintaining plants
  • Provide guidance and coaching in vocational and job-readiness skills within the greenhouse setting
  • Assist individuals with hygiene needs and personal care when necessary
  • Support individuals in understanding social cues, communication, and appropriate workplace interactions
  • Provide behavioral support and use positive strategies to help individuals manage challenging behaviors
  • Assist with safe ambulation, including support for individuals who may have mobility challenges
  • Provide transportation to and from community activities, including supporting individuals who use wheelchairs
  • Encourage community integration, including outings, volunteer opportunities, and community-based learning
  • Support individuals in developing life skills, communication skills, and independence
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants
  • Document activities and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members

 

Hours: The greenhouse operates Sunday-Friday 9am-3pm. We are looking for individuals that can work all six days or that can work three days per week.

 

Compensation is $19-$19.25/hr

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required. One (1) year of human service experience working with children, adolescents, and adults preferred. 

 

Must have a valid drivers license and a good driving record. Must also be able to pass thorough background checks & Livescan. Must be able to complete two weeks of paid, job training classes.

 

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be patient, compassionate, and committed to supporting individuals with diverse needs
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in a greenhouse environment
  • Be able to remain calm and supportive during behavioral challenges
  • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Be physically able to assist with mobility support and lifting when necessary
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and willingness to transport participants (wheelchair-accessible vehicle training provided if needed) 

 

Physical Requirements: Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.
