Immediate need for temporary (5-6 months) full-time SLPA, with possibility to become permanent.

Pay range $27.75-$32.64 per hour based on experience and higher education.

This position will alternate between Rutland and Fitchburg locations. The schedule is Monday-Friday day time hours.

Devereux Massachusetts and Rhode Island is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to helping children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other psychological, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Our school locations in Rutland and Fitchburg are private, fully approved, special needs day and residential schools for students ages 6-21. Our classroom structure is designed to match students’ needs. Through an interdisciplinary approach, an individual plan is designed for each student. Our school is prepared to meet the academic requirements of local educational agencies, as well as other states where our clients are from. Our curriculum is aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and coordinated through a collaborative working relationship with referring school districts. Flexibility in academic programming and creativity to meet students’ needs is the strength of our organization.

 

As the Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) you will:

  • Implement goals and objectives outlined in the Individual Education Program (IEP) under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).
  • Demonstrate the ability to structure the classroom physical and social environments so that every interaction and activity within the treatment program promotes positive goal-directed responses and/or social interactions from the student and facilitates skill acquisition.  
  • Assist the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation, assessment of students, and documentation of student performance. 
  • Provide information to team members for students who have communication and/or swallowing disorders, including programming and providing instruction in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
  • Assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities as directed by the SLP, and maintenance checks of equipment.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications: 

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver's license required. 
  • Bachelor's degree with major or minor in Communication Disorders and completed supervised field work required
  • Current SLPA license or license-eligible immediately following college graduation required.
  • Previous experience in remedial speech/language difficulties in a hospital or school treatment facility preferred.
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device knowledge preferred
  • Must be able to attend a 2-week paid orientation, Monday to Friday, 8AM to 4PM, in Rutland, MA.
