Being a Substitute School Nurse (RN) At Devereux PA Children's Services Has Its Advantages

 

As a Part Time Substitute School Nurse (RN) at the Devereux PA Children's Services [DPACS] you will be responsible for the medication administration and general first aid for students in the school setting. Also, you will demonstrate an understanding of the application of the nursing process and the delivery of student care in a school setting for students with special needs and medical challenges. 

 

The Substitue School Nurse will provide support daily as assigned by the School Nurse Manager in one our 6 approved private day school programs. This position will provide "fill in" coverage daily in the absence of the full time school nurse. Devereux PA Children's Services operates schools located in West Chester [390 E. Boot Road], Downingtown [600 W. Boot Road], Malvern [655 Sugartown Road], Audubon [2650 Eisenhower Ave], and Landenberg 20 McMaster Blvd], Pa. 

 

Schedule: Monday-Friday 

Hours: 9:30am-1:30pm [10-25hrs weekly]

Compensation: $40.00-$45.60/hr [Based on Experience]

 

Every day as a Substitute School Nurse (RN) you will...

  • Ensure the safety of all students
  • Administer medication to students
  • Document all medication administrations and all related activities
  • Provide care as needed for students with special needs and medical challenges
  • Respond to medical emergencies in the school and provide general first aid as needed

Children and young adults may come to Devereux as a day student, or as a part of residential treatment. Each student has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), which outlines goals for skill development and the best strategies by which the student can reach his/her goals. A multi-disciplinary team, including the individual’s parent(s) or guardian, regularly reviews the plan to discuss challenges, progress and adjustments to goals as appropriate.

 

The School for Integrated Learning (SIL) [390 E. Boot Road]  focuses on building upon the unique strengths of each student. Our school strives to offer a breadth of opportunities for students to express themselves and find personal levels of accomplishment through activities such as: Special Olympics, talent shows and school dances, student government, peer mentoring, service learning, community gardening, and employment education, both in the classroom and in the community. The goal of the School for Integrated Learning is to create individualized educational opportunities that enable each student to live as a positive, healthy and socially-connected individual in his or her community. The School for Integrated Learning is licensed to serve students in grades K-12 who have been identified with the following primary disabilities: behavioral and cognitive differences, autism, intellectual disabilities and speech and language impairments. The core curriculum has been aligned with the Pennsylvania Core Standards, as well as the curricula of our partner school districts. This innovative special education programs that work in tandem with families and school districts to ensure that students can return to their local schools and communities with the tools they will need to succeed.  The goal of the curriculum is to provide students with learning experiences that foster increased engagement and success through differentiated instruction, evidence-based instructional strategies, and rigorous learning expectations. Each student has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), which outlines goals for skill development and the best strategies by which the student can reach his/her goals. A multi-disciplinary team, including the individual’s parent(s) or guardian, regularly reviews the plan to discuss challenges, progress and adjustments to goals as appropriate. A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments.

 

Devereux Center for Autism Research and Education Services (CARES) [600 W. Boot Road, Downingtown Pa 19335]  is an Approved Private School program licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that provides services to students, ages 5 to 21, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. CARES provides an environment that focuses on teaching each student based on his or her unique strengths and needs. Programming is focused on increasing independence for each student.

 

The Brandywine School [390 E. Boot Road, West Chester Pa 19380] offer education curriculum to children functioning at all grade levels. A multi-sensory educational strategy is used at all schools, employing traditional instruction, hands-on and independent learning, as well as technology, to individualize a student’s progress in all academic areas, particularly math and reading. The transition from school to career, and all of the necessary interrelated skills, are a main focus of the school program.A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments.

 

The Mapleton School [655 Sugartown Road, Malvern Pa 19355 offers education curriculum to children functioning at all grade levels. A multi-sensory educational strategy is used at all schools, employing traditional instruction, hands-on and independent learning, as well as technology, to individualize a student’s progress in all academic areas, particularly math and reading. The transition from school to career, and all of the necessary interrelated skills, are a main focus of the school program.A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments.

 

Devereux Day Academy- Audubon [2650 Eisenhower Ave, Norristown Pa 19403] is licensed to serve students in grades 4th-12th who have been identified with the following primary emotional, behavioral and social challenges. The core curriculum has been aligned with the Pennsylvania Core Standards, as well as the curricula of our partner school districts. This alignment will facilitate smooth transitions to and from the program for your students. The goal of the curriculum is to provide students with learning experiences that foster increased engagement and success through differentiated instruction, evidence-based instructional strategies, and rigorous learning expectations

 

Devereux Day Academy- Landenberg [20 McMaster Blve, Landenberg Pa 19350] is licensed to serve students in grades K-8 who have been identified with the following primary disabilities: Intellectual Disability, Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Specific Learning Disability, and Speech or Language Impairment. The core curriculum has been aligned with the Pennsylvania Core Standards, as well as the curricula of our partner school districts. This alignment will facilitate smooth transitions to and from the program for your students. The goal of the curriculum is to provide students with learning experiences that foster increased engagement and success through differentiated instruction, evidence-based instructional strategies, and rigorous learning expectations

 

Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS) serves children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges and disorders. Located in West Chester and Malvern Pennsylvania, services provided include psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF), acute inpatient psychiatric hospital (AIP), assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training and social skills training, and  approved private school educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges often associated with experiencing some level of trauma in their lives.  A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments. Each year, more than 1,000 children and adolescents receive specialized care, in the environment best suited to the unique challenges they face, all with the goal of providing each child with the academic, social, emotional and life skills needed to flourish in their home community.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:   Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Pennsylvania preferred.  Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:  Previous clinical experience in a behavioral healthcare setting and/or school setting strongly preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques. Proficient use of computers and office equipment. 

 

Valid driver's license must be maintained.
